I was born and raised in San Jose and attended Willow Glen High School. I met my wife while during High School. We were married in August of 1994. We have two children and reside in the Cambrian area of San Jose.

Before being assigned to the West Valley Patrol Division, I was assigned to work in the Court Services Division doing duty as a courtroom bailiff and movement officer.

I am currently assigned to the midnight shift in Los Altos Hills working Sunday through Wednesday.



Deputy Jeff McCoy #1579

Los Altos Hills-Swing Shift

 

Deputy McCoy is a 15-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. After serving in the military, he became interested in law enforcement as a career. He was hired as a deputy sheriff cadet in November 1985. He completed the basic police academy in March of 1986 and was appointed as a regular Deputy Sheriff.

Deputy McCoy is currently assigned to the West Valley Patrol Division. He is dedicated to Los Altos Hills, working swing shift.

His past assignments are: Jail Operations, Transportation, Court Services, Headquarters Patrol, West Valley Patrol and Parks Patrol. He is also a 10-year member of the sheriff’s Crowd Control Unit.

He is married and has two children. Both are Honor Roll students at their respective schools. He and his wife are actively involved with their children’s education and often volunteer as chaperones for school activities.

Deputy McCoy’s hobbies and interests include computers, military history, history of Santa Clara Valley and California, coin collecting and he is an avid reader.

Having maintained his ties to the military, Deputy McCoy is a 20 year veteran of the United Stated Naval Reserve, currently assigned to Naval Special Warfare Group One, where he serves as a Chief Petty Officer, specializing in information systems, technology and communications.


Rubin Medina #1650

I am 33 years old, married 4 years with two daughters ages 3 and 1 1/2yr. I am the oldest of 5 children. I grew up in the Salinas valley in Monterey county. I graduated from North Monterey County High School in 1985. I attended and graduated from San Jose State in 1991 with a BS in Criminal Justice. While in college, I participated with the Judo team and a college fraternity.

I have been employed with the Sheriff’s Office for 3 years. I’ve worked the Los Altos Hills beat for 2 years and I am starting my third year. I was a San Jose Police Reserve Officer for two years before working full time with the Sheriff’s Office.

My current hobbies are limited due to my schedule and daughters. I currently work the midnight shift. I spend most of my free time with my daughters. When I do have some spare time, I ride my motorcycle or visit my parents in Castroville.


Louis Valdez #1507

Los Altos Hills

I am 52 years old and married with three grown children, two daughters and a son. We have six grandchildren, four boys and two girls. My wife and I met while in high school and have been married for thirty -three years.

I was born in Trinidad, Colorado and moved to San Francisco in 1957. I attended both grammar school and high school there. I went to junior high school at Peter Burnett School in San Jose for two years during this time. I graduated from Mission High School in 1967. While at Mission High, I was a member of the JROTC Program. I graduated a Cadet Major and held the position of Battalion Executive Officer. Prior to graduation I attended the U.S. marine Corp. Devil Pup Training Program. I was selected as the top graduate from, our platoon and finished second in the graduating class. After High School I joined the U.S. Army. I got married after completing basic training. I was a Paratrooper while on active duty and was sent to Vietnam. While in Vietnam, I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. After returning from Vietnam, I was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Unit in North Carolina.

After leaving active military duty, I went to work for the San Francisco Giants Security Office. I spent only one season with them until I was hired by Pacific Telephone as a motorized messenger. I also enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves. While I was in the reserve program, I was promoted to First Sergeant. I held the rank for thirteen years. I was assigned to the 490th Signal Company. While at the Telephone Company I worked as a messenger, computer operator and customer service representative. I was with the company four years when I was promoted to Business Office Instructor and then to a Business Office Supervisor. I retired from Pacific Bell in 1983. I went to work for Triad Electronics for one year. At that time I decided to join the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. I have been with the department for seventeen years. I worked in the jails for ten years, one year in Court Services and the past six years at the West Valley Patrol Division. Five of these six years, assigned to work in Los Altos Hills on day shift working Friday, Saturday and Sunday there. After joining the Sheriff’s Office, I also returned to San Jose City Collage to further my education.

My hobbies are baseball, football,hockey, basketball and golf, which I enjoy playing. While my children were young, both my wife and I coached their baseball and softball teams for over thirteen years. We enjoy traveling having taken several cruises to the Bahamas, Hawaii and Mexico. The thing I enjoy the most though, is spending time with my children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews at Disneyland.
