What do you think about the “Cops” TV show?
It can be very entertaining. A lot of what is shown on there isn’t accurate. In fact we use the Cops TV show a lot in our training but usually the things we use are examples of how not to do it safely. Basically we are concerned about our safety and the safety of everybody around us and sometimes what you see on Cops isn’t the safest thing and isn’t accurate…
Do cops prefer bagels or doughnuts?
Both. That’s the big joke we have. It used to be doughnuts, and now it’s bagels. I like them both, personally. Do you know how the cops and the doughnut shops got started? Years ago, in fact still to this day, when you’re working swing shift until midnight. When you think about it, a lot of businesses are closed … especially on the midnight shift, from midnight to six in the morning, most restaurants aren’t open. If you get the all-night Denny’s you get a lot of the drunks or other people hanging out, that are the homeless people so when you would want to sit down and relax and most of the time do an activity sheet or a report or make some phone calls, you’d never get anything done because people are constantly interrupting you or bothering you or you’d have to deal with a situation that was out of hand at the Denny’s, because people were coming in just causing problems. Doughnut shops were typically open. Nobody would come in there because they were making doughnuts early, early, or all night long. It was a place to sit down where it would be quite. No one would bother you. You could use the phone and there would be a bathroom there. And that’s the story there. A lot of people don’t know that. If you went to Denny’s forget it, you wouldn’t get any work done.
What do you do in your spare time?
You know I like to be out doors a lot so I like gardening and bike riding with my kids and that kind of stuff.
From your perspective is crime increasing or decreasing in this city?
You know, I think we have different trends, so sometimes I think its decreasing and then the next year its increasing I think that just happens to be the arise and fall of communities and how they interact. Sometimes we see specific things on the rise like vandalism will one year we’ll have a lot of vandalism or one year a lot of drugs and for some reason we’ll notice a rash of burglaries It kind of comes and goes. Right now I think we’re running pretty smooth, Knock on wood, that things are going pretty good easy going and quiet and that could change next week but usually we have little spans of time that are pretty quiet, We’re in a quiet mode right now I think
What kind of music do you like?
I like all different kinds of music. I like a lot of classical stuff. Probably my favorite are oldies from the fifties and sixties.
What kind of hobbies do you have?
Like I said before, gardening, I like little crafts things that are just relaxing to do. Let your mind not be so intense thinking about things but just relaxing so I find crafts are relaxing and gardening is relaxing.
What’s your favorite sport?
Soccer. I like soccer
